When Innovation Surpasses “Best Practices” by IWA
If a standard for light is established from the light of a candle, what happens when the light bulb comes along?
Does the light from the light bulb inherently and automatically meet the standard of the light from a candle?
If regulations have been deployed based on the standard of light from a candle, does the light from a light bulb comply with these regulations?
If it even gets this far…
If all of the interests related to candles haven’t been a barrier up until this point that prevented the light bulb from gaining traction.
If all of the candle organizations have said, “We are fully committed to innovation.” Then when shown the light bulb say, “Thats’ not how we do it.” if they say anything at all…
Enter people. The candle and the light bulb are inanimate objects. It’s people who determine their fate; and affect the user experience. The light bulb may be ready to bring more light to people through the flick of a switch and there are those who would prefer not to change and keep people in the relative darkness of candle light.
Clearly a metaphor but perhaps the point is clear nonetheless…
How can barriers to innovation be reduced or eliminated? How can “best practices” turn into “better practices” and be repeated over time continually? How does static tendencies turn into dynamic progress? How can true innovation continually enable people’s experiences to be no less than superior?
